Tempest

Tempest is a 13" x 19" mosaic (14¾" x 20¾" framed) created with a blend of ceramic and glass tiles, inspired by life on the rugged coast of Maine. One stormy night, news broke of a missing lobster boat, and the uncertainty of what those fishermen might be facing stayed with Paul. This piece grew from that moment—a reflection on danger, resilience and the raw power of the sea.

Hand-cut tiles form the churning waves, jagged lightning and the small boat fighting its way through the storm. The combination of materials adds depth and movement, allowing the water, sky and shoreline to shimmer with intensity. Every tile contributes to the drama of the scene, capturing both the beauty and the fear that come with Maine's coastal storms.

This mosaic is a tribute to the fishermen who brave the elements and to the stories the ocean never fully tells.
